• Forces gathered
in England and
then moved
across the
English Channel.
Who went in first?
• 23,000 men were dropped by parachute
behind enemy lines
• 11,000 planes
• 7 battleships, 23 cruisers and 105
destroyers laid down a massive
bombardment of the Nazi defenses.
How were the beaches captured?
• About 6:30 am the
allies moved
towards the
beaches
• 5 main beach
heads were
targeted
• Juno, Sword, Gold,
Omaha, & Utah
• Men landed in
“Higgins Boats”
