INTRODUCTION
• E-Paper is also called as electronic paper or electronic ink Display.
• The first e-paper is developed in 1974’s by “Niclolas k sheridon” at
xerox palo alto research centre.
• It is a display unit.
• E-paper is flexible
• E-paper has a wide range viewing angle.
• A digital pen is also used to create handwritten document

LITERATURE SURVEY
• Developed in 1970 by Nick sheridan.
• The electronic paper was called Gyricon.
• At the 2008 exhibition, Japanese company
demonstrated a wall with electronic wall-paper using
this technology.
• Random example:
1) USB flash drive with E-ink implemented.
2) Capacity meter of available Flash memory.

TECHNOLOGY USED FOR
• Gyricon
• Electrophoretic Display
• Electrowetting
• Electrofluidic Display
• Interferometric Modulator (Mirasol)

Gyricon
• Consists of Polythylene spheres having diameter between 70-106
micrometer.
• Each sphere is a janus particle composed of negatively charged black
plastic on one side and positively charged white plastic on other side.
• These spheres are embedded in transparent silicon

Electrophoretic display
• The electronic ink display from E-ink is based on the encapsulated
electrophoretic
• Applying an electric field moves the particle about the microcapsules
can be switched into the reflecting or absorbing state by applying the
negative or positive voltage charge.

Electrowetting display
• Based on the phenomenon of electrowetting effect the controlling
the shape of confined water or oil interface by an applied voltage.
• With no voltage applied, the oil forms a flat film between water and
hydrophobic
• With voltage applied, the stack change is constant

Electrofluidic display
• It is variation of electrowetting display.
• It is a place in acqueous pigment dispersion inside a tiny reservoir.
• The reservoir comprises <5-10% of the viewable pixel area
• Voltage is used.

Interferometric modulator (Mirasol)
• Technology used in electronic visual display that can create various
colors
• The color is selected with an electrically switched light modulator
comprising a microscopic cavity.

Construction of E-paper

• It has 2 different sides.

1) front plane
2) back plane
• The front plane consist of E-ink.
• The back plane consist of electronic circuits
