BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Introduction
School uniform is considered as one of the factors
that will distinguish a person as a part of the institution. This
is a set of clothing that students wore to school. This is
considered as the most important tool for students that they
should wear as the policy of the institution that they
involved with. They will not choose clothes that will be the
reason why they are being late instead, wearing a school
uniform makes it easier for them in going to school.
This also lessen the bullying and peer pressure in school and
school uniform may also be a reason why students
experience to be bullied (Brock, 2007).
Uniforms are first instituted in 16th Century England at
the charity school of poor children. Not until the 19th century
that the English Public School began to tolerate the school
uniforms and later accepted in state school especially in
elementary schools (Synott and Symes, 1995). The uniform
was thought to increase school spirit and loyalty. In the
United States, the phrase "dress right, act right", was heard
throughout in schools in an effort to diminish deliquency.
Increase gang activity in the 1980's lead to consider
policies thet required a more restrictive dress code
(Anderson,2004). In recent years, school across the
countries experienve violence, gang war, theft clothing of
dress and accesories. Many school boards provide a safe
and school environment for students and had
implemented policies specifying dress codes of wearing a
school unifom (Isaacson, 2004). There are many benefits
of it like: enhances school safety, improve learning aspect,
higher self-esteem for students, and less stress on the
family ( Anderson, 2004).
 There are many effects of school uniform in students
academic excellence. Young , stated many effects of it. First,
uniforms may lead to a lower absence rate, which could
increase graduation statistics in a long run. According to
Cleveland 19 News, its not exactly clear what it is about
uniforms that leads to better attendance figures. It could be
that the routine increases students overall sense of discipline
and responsibility or eliminates distraction in the arly
morning hours. Uniforms may also make students more
confident on attending school, if they wore previously
ridiculed or bullied for their clothes. Secondly, it decreases
disciplinatry activity.
Being matured enough is being able to picked their own
clothes. Denying those students to make their own choices
make them ill-prepared to adulthood. School uniform
promote students loyalty and reduce the tendency in
violence. Without wearing school uniform, students may form
gangs and identify group with same clothes color. Wearing
their school uniform then prepare them to their future career.
If they get employed, the tendency to have wear corporate
and formal attire is needed (Chavez, 2012).
One of the actions that the higher official may do is to
discipline their students regarding on not wearing proper
uniform.
Disciplinary action purpose is to turn the performance
of the students, their attendance, and conduct problem
regarding their issue about wearing proper uniform
and to make solution on this issue. In deciding to take
disciplinary action on students, make sure that it will
not hurt their feelings because its purpose is to train
them to be responsible enough in their school
performances. Here’s are the rules and regulation on
wearing proper uniform in Magsaysay National High
School Student’s Handbook (Section IV- Uniform)
1.Students are mandated to wear the prescribed
uniforms collared white t-shirt or polo with logo from
Monday to Friday and any black pants for boys and
blouse and skirt for girls from Monday to Friday. A
HOPE uniform is prescribed during PE time. 2. ID is
required in all school activities and students are
obliged to wear every time. 3. Teachers are also
obliged to wear proper uniform, throughout the week.
4. Proper hair – cut for boys and good grooming for
both boys and girls are must.

According to DeMitchell on his theory “Does wearing a scool
uniform improve students behaviour?”, uniforms may lead to
a lower absence rate, which could increase graduation
statistics in the long run. A Youngstown State University
study found that attendance in four Cleveland-area public
schools rose an average of 3.5 percent after they instituted
the use of uniforms. According to Cleveland 19 news, it's not
clear exactly what is about uniforms that lead to better
attendance figures.
It could be that the routine increases a
student’s overall sense of discipline and
responsibility of eliminates distractions in the
early morning hours. Uniforms may also make
students more confident about attending school
if they were previously ridiculed or bullied for
their clothes. Uniforms can be the starting point
of the discipline and the responsibility of the
students.
Scope and Limitations
This study focuses in the status of the
implementation of the rules and regulation on
wearing proper uniform of Senior High School of
Magsaysay National High School. The
respondents of the study or the people who will
answer the survey questionnaire are the 70%
selected of Senior High School.

METHODOLOGY

Research Design
The researcher utilized the descriptive
correlational method in order to obtain necessary
information on the study.
Locale of the Study
The study will conducted in Magsaysay
National High School in Magsaysay, Occidental
Mindoro from July 2018.
Respondents
The Grade 11 Senior High School of
Magsaysay National High School in
Poblacion, Magsasay Occidental Mindoro are
the beneficiaries of this study were the
respondents of this research study. The
respondents are randomly selected based on
the objective of this study.

Their participation in this study will
be voluntary.
Research Instrument
Questionnaire was used in collecting
numerous data about the research study which
were distributed to all respondents to gather
necessary information about the research topic. The
questionnaire contained some questions regarding
on the status of implementation of the rules and
regulation of Senior High School student on wearing
proper uniform in Magsaysay National High School.
Data Gathering Procedure
The information that obtained from this study was
acquired through research questionnaire. The certain
questionnaire were distributed to any respondents that
had been randomly selected and used as the research
instrument of the study. After gathering the data
needed, the collected data will be analyzed and
interpreted by the researchers. The researchers
assured confidentiality on their survey sheets.
