RF OPTIMIZATION NORTH
4x4 Mimo: Executive Summary
MIMO (multi-input/multi-output) can be technically defined as parallel transmission of multiple streams over air interface.
Codeword 1B
Codeword 2B
improve user data throughput
Transmit Diversity/Spacial Multiplexing Transmit Diversity/Spacial Multiplexing
Pros & Cons: 2x2 Mimo 4x4 Mimo
Advantage: Improved Data Experience
Disadvantage: More Equipment Required (as compared to legacy LTE 2x2 setup)
Gains:
Equipment Requirment:
• Spatial Diversity: Diversity, antenna & RRU
• Cross Feeder: 4 port antenna & RRU
POST
4x4 MIMO significantly enhances user experience for supporting LTE handsets (almost doubled)
Noticeable Improvement also observed for legacy handsets (2x2MIMO) due to improved SINR for cell edge users
Does not increase LTE cell “capacity” as such (like cell splitting) for legacy handsets
Cell Footprint is not impacted; equally useful for cases where users are not equally spread in the cell
Recommended (few) further deployments in AJK to further analyze the gains in legacy LTE handsets performance.
