Meaning Subjunctive Wish

Subjunctive is a verb that is used to


visualize the result of something that does
not a exist or doesn’t occur, which may be
a wish (hope), requirements (needs) and
the suggestion. Or in order words, the
meaning of this sentence subjuntive is
always opposite to reality or facts.

Word used in the subjuntive is “wish”


(want/expent).
Use of Subjunctive Wish

Use subjunctives when we talk about an


activity that will not actually happen. We
use the subjunctive when talking about
activities that a person, who wanted to
have happen expect to happen, imagine
will happen.
1. Future Subjunctive
Future Subjunctive modality is used as a
sentence that refers to the future, so the
fact that also in the form of the Simple
Future Tense.

FORMULA :
Subject (1) + wish + Subject (2) + Could /
Would + Verb 1
Example Future Subjunctive Wish :
I wish you would come to the party
tonight.
(Artinya: Saya berharap kamu akan
datang ke pesta nanti malam.)
(Fact: He will not come to the party
tonight)
NOTE :
Although rarely used, but future
subjunctive sometimes still frequently
encountered, so we better recognize it as

Present Subjunctive is used as a phrase


that refers to the assumption in the
present, so the fact that also in the form
of simple present tense.

Formula :
Subject (1) + wish + Subject (2) + Verb 2
/ were
Example Present Subjuntive Wish :

I wish you visited me.


(Artinya: Saya berharap kamu
mengunjungi saya.)
(Faktanya: You don’t visit me.)

NOTE :
At present subjuntive form, the verb is
used to form-2 (VERB 2), and if you have
to use to be, should use “were” for all

Past Subjunctive is used as a phrase
that refers to the assumptiont in the past,
so the fact that also in the form of the
Simple Past Tense.
Formula :
Subject (1) + wished + Subject (2) + Had +
Verb 3 / been
Example :
She wished she had more time last night.
(Artinya: Dia berharap bahwa dia punya
waktu lebih kemarin malam.)
