the circumference of a circle?
The circumference of a circle is the
perimeter of the circle.

Imagine that the circle is

straightening itself out in to a line
segment

The length of this line segment is the circumference of

the circle. 314 units
 The circumference = 3 diameters + .14 of another
diameter.

That is C = 3.14 x Diameter

So, circumference = 3.14 x diameter = Π x 2r = 2 Π

you find the area of a
circle?
Imagine chopping up the Now, let’s rearrange
circle as if it were a pizza. our “pizza” into
another shape
(rectangle).

To find the area of the circle (which is now a

rectangle), we just need to multiply the Base by
the Height.

Base = Half the circumference = 2 Π r /2 = Π r

Height = Radius = r

So Area of rectangle = Area of Circle = Π r x r = Π r²

For eg, r = 7 units, Area of circle = Π x 7 x 7 = 49 Π
