Desizing

Desizing is the process of removing the size material from the warp
yarns in woven fabrics. Sizing agents are selected on the basis of type
of fabric, environmental friendliness, ease of removal, cost
considerations, effluent treatment, etc.
Desizing Process:

1.Oxidative Desizing
Bromite
Clorite
Amonium persulphate

2.Hydrolytic desizing
•Enzymatic desizing of starches on cotton fabrics
•Alkali desizing
•Acid desizing
•Rot desizing
1) OXIDATIVE DESIZING:

Some oxidizing agents, particularly hydrogen peroxide and

some per-sulphate will degrade Starch and has a serious

attack oon cellulose as long a sreasonable care is taken with

the process. The fabric is impregnated with hot solution of

oxidizer and batched up for several hours or steamed for

20min at 100-105oC. Since hydrogen peroxide is used as

bleach for cellulosic substrate as a bleaching process would

normally follow desizing

ROT DESIZING:

40 -60 temp
24-12 hour time

•The bacteria present in water produce enzyme, which react

with starch and converted them into glucose unit,
which are soluble in water and on washing the fabric can easily
be removed.

• This is slow but economic process.

Advantages of Enzymatic Desizing

•No damage to the fibre

•No usage of aggressive chemicals
•Wide variety of application processes, and
•High biodegradability

Disadvantages Enzymatic Desizing

Lower additional cleaning effect towards other impurities, no effect on
certain starches (e.g. tapioca starch) and possible loss of
effectiveness through enzyme poisons.
