Opinion Poll (1/2) 11

We asked 4 people some questions as the following mentions :

1. What is your feeling about earthquakes?
2. If there was a earthquake happened, what strategies would
you plan?
3. Are there any evacuation fields around your house?
4. Do you think whether your house should be reinforced?
And their answers are as the following lists :

Person A Person B
1. Horrible 1. Let natural take its course
2. Nothing but just run far away 2. Run
the house 3. Parking lot
3. Playground inside Xinming 4. Not necessary
elementary school
4. Not necessary
Opinion Poll (2/2) 12

Person C
1. If the earthquake is not so much big, I’m not afraid about it.
2. Stay in home till the earthquake is over.
3. No evacuation fields
4. Not necessary

Person D
1. I don’t care
2. Leave outside the house
3. Underground parking
4. Our houses are solid enough, those new apartments are more
dangerous than our house because they often add styrofoam
into the structure.
Suggestions (1/4) 13
・Countermeasure for Structure

1.) Undergrounding

Advantages
• Rescue by fire truck will become easier.
• Prevent the collapse of utility pole and fire accident
by congested electric wire.

Suggestions (2/4) 14
・Countermeasure for Structure

2.) Remove the window wire mesh

Government support residents remove window mesh by using
auxiliary lock.

Auxiliary Lock (補助錠) might reassure residents, if this tool are

supplied by government.

5.) Alerm system set up on each road

Suggestions (4/4)
Countermeasures
• Undergrounding
• Removing window wires • Money
• Evacuation guide Needs • Time
• Strengthen Signboard
• Alarm system

Determine priority is important

• Where the most dangerous place is
• What the most important countermeasure is
Conclusions 16

From direct damage

Xinming Village has wide road and a lot of RC buildings which
can resist the fire. However, there are some drawbacks against the
earthquake such as illegal construction, outdoor units and
signboard.
From indirect damage
The indirect damage occur everytime and everywhere. So it is
necessary to improve this situation. In order to avoid the injure of
residents.

From the interview

The government should give the correct information to residents,
because there are a lot of people still don’t know the problems
about their houses.
Sincere thanks for support
from NCUCE, and friendly
local residents.
