1. Inspection of cranes – As per the approved Schedule
2. Analyzing the break downs.
3. Follow up of maintenance.
4. Checking of open gears, limit switches etc.
5. Inspection and recommending revamping of cranes.
6. Inspection & testing of lifts of works & non works area.
7. Procurement of C8 category items like crane wheel blanks,
finished wheels, wire ropes, Hooks, chain ,chain slings,
wheel pair assemblies.
 ACITIVITIES OF CRANE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

Additional jobs.
1. Inspection, testing, commissioning & commissioning of
new cranes in shops.
2. Monitoring of Crane jobs during Capital repairs of BBM,
RSM, Plate Mill etc.
3. Members of Enquiry committee for analyzing the facts of
major break downs of cranes.
4. . Ensuring the availability of Crane Operator’s log books,
wire rope sling records & chain sling records
5. Training & testing of Crane Operators
a) Members of Trade testing.
b). Associating with safety inspection.
c). Committee member in making specifications of new crane

 HIGHLIGHTS
1. SP-3 (Sinter Plant III ):
Passenger cum freight Lift New Cap. 2T , ECE Make was commissioned on 20.04.14
after Inspection & Testing.

2. BRM (Bar and Rod Mill):

Crane No -106 Cap.20/5T, HEC Make was commissioned on 12.08.14 after Inspection
& Testing.

3. SP-2 (Sinter Plant II):

New cold sinter screen Bldg. Crane Cap.22T Shakti crane & machinery Pvt. Ltd. was
commissioned on 26.08.14 after Inspection & Testing.

4. URM (Universal Rail Mill ):

Crane No -413 Cap.50/15T, HEC Make was commissioned on 20.10.14 after Inspection
& Testing.

CONSTRAINTS
1. 2 nos. of Sr. Crane Inspectors will be superannuating in FY 2016.
2. As 150 nos of new Cranes, Lifts & Telphers are coming up in 7MT,Expansion areas,
2 nos. of Crane Inspectors required for the fulfilment of gap.
