a & an
Use (a) with the singular words that start with a consonant:
Ex: It is a cat.
She is a doctor.
Use (an) with singular words that start with a vowel “a, e , i ,o , u”:
Ex: It is an envelop.
He is an artist.
Plural nouns
Most nouns add –s in the plural.
Ex: Stamp stamps /key keys / camera cameras
If the noun ends in –s, -ss, -sh, or ch, add –es:
Ex: Bus buses / class classes / match matches
If the noun ends in a consonant+ -y, the -y changes to –ies.
Ex: Country countries / party parties
If the noun ends in a vowel = -y , the –y doesn’t change.
Ex: Key keys / day days
