Bangkok Metropolitan Police


 The most visible and publicly recognizable of all Thai
police components.
 Responsible in providing policing services in the
capital city of Bangkok and its suburbs.
 Under control of a Commissioner who’s rank is Police
Major and assisted by six(6) Deputy Commissioners.
 Accounted for about forty(40) police precincts
within the metropolitan area.

 Traffic Police Division- serves as escorts, guards for
the king and visiting dignitaries; riot control force.

 Traffic Police Division- also have building guards,


canine corps, traffic control specialists and law
enforcement personnel trained to deal with juveniles.
CENTRAL INVESTIGATION BUREAU
(CIB)

 Located in Bangkok
 National in Jurisdiction
 Serves as the national coordinating headquarters
which assist provincial and metropolitan
components in preventing and suppressing criminal
activity and minimizing threats to national security.
 It has specialized units at the bureau includes:
railroad, marine, highway, and forestry police.

 The largest of the RTP/TNPD’s


operational components in both
manpower and geographical
responsibility.
 This division provides police services to

the entire country, to towns and villages


except to the Metropolitan Bangkok and
border areas.
191 SPECIAL BRANCH POLICE

 Special Branch Police Unit that acquires and


develops intelligence, usually of a political nature
and conducts investigations to protect the State from
perceived threats like terrorism and other extremist
activities.

 Special Operation Unit (Arintharat 26)- is a SWAT


team of the Royal Thai Police.

 They are responsible in conducting aerial patrol,


providing emergency assistance during calamities
and provides surveillance for traffic system.

5. Fluent in the Thai language English language
especially for applicants of the Tourist Police.
6. Not been convicted of any crime especially crimes
involving drugs.
7. 16 to 21 year of age
APPLICATION
Step 1

 APPLICATION
 Individually assigned identification date
to submit the application form to the
recruitment staff.

 Each applicant will be given an


applicant’s ID to carry throughout the
recruitment process.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE TEST


 Applicants are given three sets of


tests
1. English knowledge test
2. Test of subject areas essential in police
work
3. Basic Aptitude test

 MEDICAL EXAMINATION
 The medical examination of the applicants is
undertaken at the police general hospital.
 Preparation guideline is to abstain from food 12
hours prior to the medical examination.
 Must be properly attired and bring along the
applicants ID and writing instruments.

 Document Submission
 Original documents with one copy of each
 Four colored one inch photos taken within three months
prior to the application date.
 Identity card or Government employee card

 House Registration Certificate

 Place and time to submit the completed application


form.

 INTERVIEW

The applicants will be interviewed by the


Selection Committee . Must be properly attired
and carry the applicants ID and personal
identity card.
Step 6
 APTITUDE TEST
 Written test- to assess the basic skill required for
police work.
 Teamwork Exercise- this test evaluates how the
applicants cooperate, communicate and act as a team
and to execute leadership when needed in a high
techand changing environment.
 Individual Examination- designed to measure the
operational skills such as stress, tolerance, etc..
 Applicants who fail may re apply after 3 years.

 PSYCHOLOGICAL TEST
 Psychological group test-held at RTP headquarters,
the applicants are recommended to have their
breakfast and be at the test room not later than 7:30.
must bring their own identity cards and writing
materials.
 Psychological Individual Interview – the interview will
be aranged by the Medical Psychologists. Date and
time of the interview will be advised. Test will be
review by the Selection Board before the applicants
undergo their training.
TRAINING
Training

 Teams are divided up into units of 5 people


following the model set up of Germany’s GSG-9.
 These units are specialized according to a
respective tasking:
 Counter terrorism
 Maritime
 Airborne,
And teams are trained in military tactics, sniping,
waterborne operations, martial arts, and operation in a
variety of vehicles.
Training
 After initial training, groups pass on their
experiences to other members of the Special
Operation Company.
 Special Operations are military activities that train,
organize, equipped personnel using unconventional
tactics , techniques in the modes of employment.
 Company will also assign members to train abroad
and bring the knowledge back to Thailand to help
train the company.

 Standard Training
1. International counter terrorism training consisting of 24
weeks of training for new Police privates.
2. International counter terrorism training of 6 weeks of
training for Police who are now in active service as well as
one week of anti-terrorism planning.
3. Explosive Ordinance Disposal(EOD) training consisting 12
weeks of training.
4. Sniper/counter-sniper training consisting of 4 weeks of
training for those assigned to sniper position.
5. Electronics proficiency training consisting of 12 weeks of
training for those assigned to the duty of Electronics
Proficiency Officer.

Pre- service Training

THE Provincial Schools emphasize a professional


or vocational training program in police science or
technology that stresses police knowledge and the
techniques required to perform basic police tasks
such as criminal law, criminal procedure,
investigation, patrol, traffic control, report writing,
ethics, self defense, crime prevention, DNA…
In-service Training
Non -Commissioned Officers
SPECIPIC-Police corporals and sergeants. Twelve(12)
week long and teaches investigative knowledge and
capability, designed by police provincial school.

GENERIC- Deals with drug investigation, drug


prevention & suppression, fundamental police tactics
crime prevention & suppression, administration and
personnel management, traffic contorl , logistics training
and budget finances. Designed by the Education and
planning Division of the Police Education Bureau.
COMMISSIONED OFFICERS
 16 weeks command course given to deputy police
commanders or top level administrators to increase
their administrative and managerial, and
organizational skills and capabilities.
 16 weeks superintendent course designed to
providemid-level management with knowledge and
skills in applying managerial and technological
models of their work.
 10 weeks inspector course to enhance sub- inspector’s
or first level administrator’s knowledge in their work
related areas; administration, investigation, criminal
law and traffic control.
COMMISSIONED OFFICERS
 15 weeks general staff course that is also given to
sub- inspector to learn about advanced administration
and managerial skills.
 16 weeks criminal investigation course that instills sub-
inspectors with the core concepts of investigation,
criminal procedure and its application.
 A specialized course, spesially designed by individual
police units to repond to a particular situation such as
anti riot course by the Metropolitan Police Bureau.

PROMOTION

With in the Sam Pam Group that has


approximately 300 members each year, about 50
of them were police constable who passed the
examination and went back to the police academy.
These selected officers have about 1-4 years of
police working experience before entering the
academy. This is a way the RTP promotes constables
to be commissioned officers.
How to become a Commissioned
Officer
1. High School graduates and a small group of
policemen undergoing a four year police education
and training program at the Police Cadet Academy .
2. Law and Political Science degree graduates with a six
months police training course often called LPS group.
3. Police sergeants getting promoted known as Sergeant
becoming Lieutenant.
4. Those with special knowledge or expertise in the law
enforcementfield who got transferred to be officers
and received six months of police training which is
called special group.
