Rational and Linear Function

Introduction
• It has been told decades ago by our ancestors
that General Mathematics is hard and cannot
be applied in real life. But here we are as
students, believing in those fallacies.
Mathematics has always been the foundation
of our life. Even in the most simple and
primitive ways, we use math. Now we shall
prove that math is powerful and it can do
everything.
Methodology
• The study uses the following equipment:
laptop, printer, cellular phone, and books.
• This study was also conducted in the library
and in the classroom.
Rational Function
• A rational function is a function that is a
fraction and has the property that both its
numerator and denominator are polynomials.
• Rational function is in the form of:
𝑝(𝑥)
𝑓 𝑥 =
𝑞(𝑥)
• where p(x) and q(x) are both polynomials.
Doppler Effect Formula
• The Doppler effect is the change in frequency
or wavelength of a wave in relation to an
observer who is moving relative to the wave
source.
• Doppler Effect Formula is in the form of:

𝑣 − 𝑣𝑜
𝑓 = 𝑓
𝑣 − 𝑣𝑠

𝑣 − 𝑣𝑜
𝑓 = 𝑓
𝑣 − 𝑣𝑠
• Doppler Effect Formula is an example of
rational function even though if we graph it
forms a line.
• Doppler Effect Formula is considered to be a
rational function because of its form where it
uses fraction and has the property that both
its numerator and denominator are
polynomial 𝑣 − 𝑣𝑜 and 𝑣 − 𝑣𝑠
Situation: Vince is waiting at the jeepney
terminal then he heard a siren of an
ambulance towards him at the speed of
45Mph with a sound of 1,000Hz. How loud is
the frequency Vince heard when the speed of
the sound wave is at 772Mph.

𝒇 = 𝑨𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝑭𝒓𝒆𝒒𝒖𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒚 𝒇 = 𝟏, 𝟎𝟎𝟎Hz

Therefore, Vice heard 1,061.9Hz when the speed

of sound waves is at 772Mph
Linear Function
• A linear function is any function that graphs to
a straight line. What this means is that the
function has either one or two variables with
no exponents or powers. If the function has
more variables, the variables must be
constants or known variables for the function
to remain a linear function.
• Linear Function can be express in the form:

𝑦 = 𝑎 + 𝑏𝑥
where Y is the dependent variable, X is the
independent variable, a is a constant variable,
and b is the coefficient of the independent
variable.
Situation: Eclipsa was ask bay her mother to buy
a 4kg of “lansones” in the market. The price of
the “lansones” was 35pesos per kilo.
Determine the total cost of all the expenses if
the jeepney fair is 10pesos
