PHYSICAL MEANS OF SEPARATING

MIXTURES
 1. Decantation
- is the process of separating
the components of mixture by
pouring the liquid component
from one container to another,
without disturbing the lower
layer
 2. Evaporation
- the process by which a
liquid changes into water
vapor
- this process is used when
making rock salt from sea
water
- the principle of
evaporation is also applied
in preserving fish by drying
3. Filtration
- is the process by
separating solid and
liquid substances by using
porous filter, such as
strainer and cloth, that
allows the liquid to pass
through
4. Sieving
- the process of
using sieve to
separate solids with
different particle sizes
5. Using Magnets
- some mixtures are made up of materials that
can be separated using magnets
- In a construction site, nails may accidentally
mix with sand. In this mixture, a magnet can pick
up nails.
