WHAT IS AN

 provides guidelines to organize appropriate

learning scenarios to achieve instructional
goals.
 Goal is to improve instructions by improving

the instructor.
“Design is more than a process; that process, and resulting product,
represent a framework of thinking”

Driscoll & Carliner (2005)

Characteristics of Instructional Design Models

 is learner centered.
 is goal oriented.
 focuses on real world performance
 focuses on outcomes that can be measured in

a reliable and valid way

 is empirical.
 typically is a team effort.

THE DICK & CAREY MODEL
IDENTIFYING
INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS

The first step in the Dick and

Carey Model is to clarify your
goals and objectives

CONDUCT INSTRUCTIONAL
ANALYSIS

determining what your

learners already know so
that you can figure out
how to fill the learning gap
IDENTIFY ENTRY BEHAVOIRS

determine your learner’s

behaviors, traits, personal
preferences,

WRITE PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

you must figure out specific goals

and objectives for the lesson. This is
the equivalent of the SWBAT.
DEVELOP CRITERION
REFERENCED TESTS

must do is to create a test

(consistent with the performance
objectives) that will reflect what
you’re hoping to teach the
students.

DEVELOP INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGY

you begin to outline your lesson plan

DEVELOP AND SELECT
INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGY

you make sure you have what you

need ready for the lesson.

DEVELOP AND CONDUCT

INFORMATIVE EVALUATION

you would have to evaluate how

the lesson went.
SUMMATIVE EVALUATION

assessing whether the

learning outcomes is
achieved. If yes it would be
good if not, You revised,
ELY AND GERLACH MODEL
It was developed by Vernon S.
Gerlach and Donald P. Ely year
1971.

They wanted to design a model

which explains each components of
teaching under the process and at
the same time examining the
relationship between media and
instruction.

ROBERT GAGNE’S MODEL

Robert Mills Gagné (August

21, 1916 – April 28, 2002)
was an American
educational psychologist best
known for his
Conditions of Learning

And he developed the Nine

JERROLD KEMP MODEL

Jerrold Kemp (April 23, 1921 – November

26, 2015) was a researcher in the field of
Instructional Design. He is the main
contributor to the Kemp Instructional Design
Model
JERROLD KEMP MODEL
WHY KEMP MODEL DIFFERENT FROM THE
OTHER?

The Kemp Design Model adopts a circular structure,

rather than one that is linear (Akbulut, 2007).

This circularity viewed the nine core elements of the

model as interdependent rather than singular and
independent.

It allows instructional designers a significant degree

of flexibility, because they are able to begin the
design process with any of the nine components or
stages, rather than being constrained to work in a
linear fashion.
