 Harrison Act- A federal law passed in
1916 that regulates the manufacture,
importation, transportation, and
distribution of all “narcotics ” defined
by the act.
 Cumulative Effect-The state in which
a series of repeated actions have
an effect greater than the sum of their
individual effects.
Replacement therapy is
treatment directed toward
supplying a material normally
present in the body, but absent in
a specific patient because of
disease, injury, congenital
deficiencies, etc.
 Supportive Psychotherapy aims to
improve symptoms and maintain,
restore or improve self-esteem and
skills.
The Z-track method is a
type of IM injection
technique used to prevent
leakage of the medication
into the subcutaneous
tissue.
 Tachyphylaxis- is used to describe
desensitization that occurs very rapidly,
sometimes with the initial dose.
 Biocultural ecology includes concepts
related to biologic variations, heredity,
genetics and drug metabolism.
Most weight-control drugs are
containing amphetamines.
Jaundice- yellowish pigmentation of the
skin, tissues, and body fluids caused by
the deposition of bile pigments.
 Two methods in administering IV fluids and drugs
are Continuous and Intermittent IV Infusion.
