DARK SHIP DETECTION AND

MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
SIDDHESH DALVI
STATE OF THE ART TECHNOLOGY
• SOSUS
• FISH HOOK
• NC3I
• SATELLITE DETECTION
WHAT IS NEW?
• Non Linear Array of Hydrophones
• Constantly monitors an entire region, rather than just monitoring it’s
borders
• Can be Made Application Specific
• Can be used on a smaller scale
Selection Of Area
• Selected based on whether there have been dark vessel cases in that
region before or not
• Almost six five years ago a floating armoury was intercepted by Indian
authorities in October 2013, off Tuticorin, with 25 armed guards of
four different nationalities
• Other than this the waters near Sri Lanka have been quite troubled

Hence, the waters between India and Sri
Lanka have been chosen
System Specifications
• Temperature – 28 C
• Salinity – 34 ppt
• PH – 8
• Maximum Water Depth – 480m
• Depth of Deployment – 15m
• Square Arrangement at Optimum Distance
Distance Between Hydrophones
• Optimizing Number of Hydrophones is necessary
• Too Few – Inaccurate Data
• Too Many – High Cost
• Francois – Garrison Model
• For a distance above 100 KM, the transmission loss exceeds 76 db, hence a source beyond that distance will not affect the
ambient noise
Path Forward
• Arrangement of Nodes
• Data Communication Medium
• Simulations
• Optimization (Real Time System)
