Group 4
Purpose
Look at popular music as one indicator of salient values during different
periods
Objectives
*To identify the selected hit
01 songs of the different eras
starting from 30's up to present

* To interpret the genre and

02 meaning of the different hit
songs in every era.

* To apply leadership concepts

of values, ethics and character
03 to the groups who was exposed
in that era.
30's
" LIFE IS JUST A
BOWL OF CHERRIES "
" The song became one of the most famous Depression
Philosophy song of the era. " --- Don Tyler

-During this era people are suffering from Great Depression

and been affected by the WW 2.
-Symbolism and sarcasm about the life of people during
that time. Also there's a part of the song which says that

" Life is just a bowl of cherries

Don't take it seriously; it's too mysterious
You work, you save, you worry so
But you can't take your dough when you go,...“

it states that our life may be grand in one moment, but the
next day everything could be taken from you. The song
states real status of people during that time. Even though
the lyrics are written in sarcastic way it somehow became
inspirational to the people because they can relate to it and
they feel like the song is sympathizing with them.
40's
“LA VIE EN ROSE”
“La Vie en rose” was a song
whose giddy romance swept the
French national spirit from the
ashes of the Second World War
and sent it soaring around the
world.
50’s
“ MONA LISA”

In this song Nat King Cole compares his Love

to the famous painting by Leonardo da Vinci.
The Mona Lisa if famous for her smile and
her mystique, as the portrait has become one
of the most famous works of art in
history.Nat's daughter Natalie Cole waited
until after college to begin a singing career,
and when she first started performing, "Mona
Lisa" was the only Nat King Cole song she
included in her set. She found that performing
the song was very emotional, and while it got
a very strong reaction from the crowd, it was
too much for her. She eventually dropped the
song and started singing one of her father's
more upbeat selections: "L-o-v-e."
60’s
“Can’t Help Falling In Love”

Song upholds FALLING IN LOVE by telling

about popular facts, criticism as well as true
nature of LOVE.It is a tender ballad about
being unable to resist falling in love, and it is
one of the most popular wedding songs.
However, some critics assert it should not be
considered the triumph of romantic music, a
happy song celebrating love, but a song of
defeat, and grieving, which is seen from the
very first lines of the song, where there is a
warning from wise people not to fall in love
impulsively. On the contrary, the singer
cannot help becoming infatuated, seemingly
against his own wishes.
70's
“DON'T STOP TILL
YOU GET ENOUGH”
- One of the most iconic disco
songs of all time, and it's
physically impossible not to
feel funky as soon as it
comes on.
90's
“WHEN YOU BELIEVE”
This shows hope to everyone in this
generation women empowerment is
highlighted, targeting the weak
audiences to gain strength for a
purpose. Its main objective is to help
everyone boost their confidence and
have trust with their own art and power.
2000s
“EVERYBODY'S
CHANGING”
This song is about someone struggling
to adapt to changes around them,
particularly their friends who are
growing up, moving away, and losing
interest in things they once shared with
the singer.
