INTRODUCTION

 Basic controllers used for controlling a fan.

 Automated systems for household purposes.
 Automated closed loop control system
EXISTING SYSTEMS & THEIR DEFICIANCIES :

 Phase Control Using chopper.

 Creating PWM by using 555 Timer.

 Disadvantages of using both systems:

 Using the chopper circuit makes the circuit
quite large.
 Using both the circuits we cannot have
automated control.
BASIC IDEA OF THE SYSTEM :
HARDWARES USED :

MAIN COMPONENTS : OTHER COMPONENTS :

 Triac  Zero Crossing Detector

 Temperature Sensor  Opto-Coupler
 Micro-controller
TRIAC :
TEMPERATURE SENSOR – LM 35 :

CONFIGURATION
MICRO-CONTROLLER:

A microcontroller is a
small computer on a
single integrated
circuit containing a processor
core, memory, and
programmable I/O peripherals

Famous microcontroller
manufacturers are Micro-chip,
Atmel, Intel and more.
ARDUINO :

Arduino consists of both a physical programmable circuit board

(often referred to as a microcontroller) and a piece of software,
or IDE (Integrated Development Environment) that runs on our
computer, used to write and upload computer code to the
physical board.

PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS:

 Problems faced were:

 Proper sine wave cutting was not seen.
 Thus control of Triac was not proper.
 Desynchronized pulse train.
 Lack of isolation.

 Solutions for these problems:

 Need for synchronizing the pulse train.
 Zero crossing detector circuit was required.
 Opto-coupler used to isolate the power circuit from the control circuit.

OPTO-COUPLER :
 An optocoupler is a component
that transfers electrical signals
between two isolated circuits by
using light. Opto-coupler
prevent high voltages from
affecting the system receiving the
signal.

4N25 Opto-coupler
 Commercially available opto-
coupler withstand input-to-output
voltages up to 10 kV and voltage
transients with speeds up to
10 kV/μs

 Successful control of the firing pulses according to

temperature.

 Efficiency of the system significantly improved.

 Automatic control system achieved.
