Today, with easy access
to computers and the
internet, people write
their diaries differently.
Form handwritten
entries on a piece of
paper or a notebook
page, diaries in contemporary times come
in the form of online journals which are
called blogs.
The term “blog” was first used in the 1990’s. It is a short
version of “weblog”, or an individualized piece of
written work found on the web. It is defined below by
dictionary.com.
Blogs, like diary entries, are
individual accounts of
writer’s experiences and
emotions. Thus, the
viewpoint is usually
personal and subjective.
However, blogs are different
form the traditional journal
or diary entry in the sense
that blogs are uploaded to online platforms
that make it easier for bloggers (those who
write blogs) to include visual features , as well
as links to other sites on the net.
Unlike diary entries, blogs
are public in nature. This
means that bloggers,
even if they write about
personal issues, must
present these issues in a
way that would interest
the general public.
Blogs, compared to diary entries, are more
concerned with communicating a message ,
rather than simply expressing or documenting
an idea or emotion.
How does one create a
blog? Go to wikihow.com
and look up “How to
create a blog.” the site
provides step-by-step
instructions on how to
create a blog from coming
up with a concept,
starting a blog at blogger.com, launching a blog
on WordPress, to promoting your blog. This
lesson, however, focuses on writing a blog
entry.
In 1994, Justin Hall
created what would
become known as
the world’s first blog,
Links.net, which
chronicled his life in
detail. And, by 2004,
the aptly named Blog would be honored
with Merriam-Webster’s Word of the
Year award. Since the early days of the
internet, blogging caught on as a way for
individuals to express their passions and
for businesses to communicate to
consumer bases.

How to name
your Blog?
The Five
Categories of Blog
Names
Descriptive
- Descriptive names are straightforward
and functional. They generally describe in
literal terms what your blog is all about.
Since they are so direct, there is little
dispute over the meaning of these names.
Metaphoric
- Metaphoric names use one word (or
more) to suggest the likeness or analogy
of another. To provide additional clarity,
metaphoric names can be compounded
with a more descriptive word.
Invented
- An invented name is poetically crafted
and based on the experience and rhythm
of saying it. It may or may not contain a
real word or two that conveys some
meaning.
Personal
- Personal Names are made from the
name of the author of the blog. Usually,
it’s the first and last name in that order,
but some lucky few are using their first
name.
Evocative
- Evocative names make use of an
unrelated word to evoke and compliment
the positioning of your blog rather than
describe its niche.
How to Write a
Blog Post?
1. Pick a topic
- If you have a content plan already, all
you need to do is to pick the first topic
you planned to write about.
2. Make an outline
- An outline is a great supporting tool for
any blogger. It allows you to see the
structure of the post and the impression
this post could make before you even
start writing.
3. Come up with a
proper headline
- A strong headline should be:
• Catchy;
• 60 characters in length maximum;
• Related to the topic of your post.
4. Don’t forget to
include keywords
- The keywords are extremely important
as they help the search engines to find
and rank your blog posts.
5. Prepare some
references in advance
- Even if you have enough knowledge to
write a post completely on your own,
adding a couple of links to other reliable
sources definitely won’t hurt.
6. Don’t forget to
prepare images as well
- The images are great for illustrating your
point of view and attracting the attention
of the visitors, so you should consider
adding them to your posts.
6. Write the post
- After you finish with the preparation, all
you’re left to do is to write the post. And
after you do so, another important part of
the work will begin- the publishing itself.
