Curriculum guides “usually
include details about the
topics to be taught, pre-
determined teaching goals
and suggestions for
instructional strategies”
(Ben-Peretz, 1990, p. 25).

Curriculum guidelines
furnish information about
predetermined learning
outcomes and are generally
less complete than
curriculum guides.
Courses of study or
syllabi usually specify the
content, the learning
outcomes, and time
allocations for the various
topics. Sometimes a
rationale for the choices of
content is included in
syllabi.
Resource units typically
include learning
outcomes, suggestions for
teaching, sources of
information, and prepared
instructional units. Lists of
curriculum goals and
objectives, along with their
rationales, are another
form of project.
Curriculum Guide Format
1. Introduction – title, subject, grade level
2. Instructional Goals – relates to school’s
curriculum goals/objective
3. Instructional Objectives – meets
cognitive, affective, and psychomotor
4. Learning Activities - experiences
5. Evaluation Techniques - assessment
6. Resources – material (visual aids/audio)
Curriculum Guide Format
Sequencing Format – identifies objectives to
be introduced/ developed/ mastered/
reinforced/ extended at each grade level.

Text Coding Format – identifies origin of


each objective
Resource Unit
Resource Unit – an arrangement of
materials and activities around a particular
topic or problem that will aid the teacher
(format is the same as curriculum guide)
Sources of Curriculum Materials
• Curriculum libraries of colleges and
universities, particularly those schools and
department of education
• Curriculum centers of the public school
system
• Teacher education centers
• Offices of curriculum consultants
• State departments of education
• Regional education services agencies
This activity asks you to note content and
audience in three real-world curriculum
documents. This knowledge is a practical
consideration for thinking about your own
curriculum project. Scan each of the following
projects
– Mathematics 2, Curriculum Guide
– Developing an Award-winning Online Course
1. Does the project contain goals/objectives,
suggestions for teaching, or both? Explain.

2. For whom is the project intended? Primarily


curriculum developers? Primarily classroom
users? Explain.
