Methodology of EIA study
• Identification of significant environmental parameters and assessing the
existing status with in the impact zone with Respect to Air,Water,Noise,Soil
and Socio economic components of environment
• Study the various activities of the mine to identify the areas leading to
impact/change in environment quality
• Quantification/prediction of the identified activities and to study level of
impact on various environmental components
• Evaluation of impacts after superimposing the prediction /quantified
scenario over the baseline scenario.
• Formulation of environmental management plan for implementation in the
project
Water Environment
Land management
• The most dominant type of soil in in the area black-cotton soil which
is present in thickness ranging from less than a meter to as much as
1.5 M in the cultivated an agriculture lands.
• Land use pattern:
Socio Economic Environment
Anticipated Environmental impacts &
mitigation measures
• Air Environment
• Noise Environment
• Water Environment
• Land Environment
• Afforestation Environment
• Control of Ground Vibrations
• Socio Economic Environment
• Occupational Health and Safety Measures
Air pollution control measures
• The air born particulate matter is the main air pollutant contributed by opencast mining.
• MIHL proposes to produce about 2.72 million TPA of lime stone from the mine

• Dust is the Major pollutant generated from the mining operation.

1. Drilling
2. Blasting
3. Excavation
4. Loading operation
5. Transportation of lime stone and overburden
• Use of wagon drill provided with Dust collectors
• Use sharp drill bits
• Water sprinkling at regular interval
• Approxmetly 15 m/day of water is proposed to the used for dust suppression operation at mine
Noise Environment
• Noise will be produced due to drilling blasting compressor, pumps
movement of vehicles and other machinery
Noise pollution control Measure
• The following noise abatement measurements are proposed for control of
noise
• Proper and regular maintenance of vehicles, machinery and other
equipment
• Carrying out blasting only during time and not on clouding day
• The noise generated by the machinery will be reduced by proper
lubrication of the machinery and equipment
• Proper and timely maintenance of mining machinery
• Speed limits 25km
Water Environment
• Mining activities may cause adverse impact due to mine drainage
siltation due to storm water and contaminated water from workshops
and Domestic sewage water.
• Proper implementation of EMP will be reduced the impact of the
mine operation
Impact on surface water bodies and control measures
There are no perennial or seasonal water courses present in the mine
lease area.
MHIL will construct garland drains and sedimentation traps all long the
lease boundary to control the erosion.
Water consumption and wastewater
generation
• The water required is estimated to be about 30 𝑚3 /𝑑
Afforestation

• MHIL propose to develop 20.54 Ha under greenbelt which include

7.5m width barrier zone
Progressive Greenbelt Development Plan
Impact on ground vibration
• Blasting
• Implemented to control the ground vibration at the mine
• Blast hole will be initiated by the short delay detonators
• Blasting machines
• Number of blast hole per delay will be kept minimum
Safety in Blasting :
A Blasting SIREN will be used at the time of blasting for
Audio signal
Before blasting and after blasting, red and green flags will
be display as visual signals.
Warning notice
Socio Economic Environment
• Occupational Health impact
• Occupational safety &Health
management
• Safety shoes,helment & uniform are
issued to each worker.
• Other safety equipments
• Leather/rubber/asbestos hand gloves
• Noise respirators
• Ear muff/ ear plugs
• Zero power spectacles
• Head lights
Analysis of alternative Technology
• The tow technologies studied for implementation of mining
operations.
• Surface mining
• Conventional mining
Surface mining employs continuous surface miners for excavation of
limestone and drilling or blasting are involved.
Convention mining
Conventional mining involves drilling, blasting and excavation.
Budget of EMP
• MHIL will incur an
amount Rs 10 crores
for producing lime
stone of 2.72 MPTA.
• 50 lakh is budget for
implementation of
environmental
Managements plan.
