Introduction
Fashion industry has evolved through time .In order to design aesthetically
appealing outfits, geometry is used to make these appealing patterns.
Designers use geometry principles to create these new designs. Prints –
geometry in colour is fashionable and sophisticated Apparel
manufacturing is traditionally conducted using two dimensional patterns
to produce sample garments to be fitted on a three-dimensional
mannequin.
Geometry can also push the boundaries of creativity in fashion. create
radically different garments inspired by geometry and topology
Importance of
geometry in
apparel.
• It is clear that geometry plays an important role in
fashion. Geometry provides fashion designers with a unique, creative way
to express themselves through design. Additionally, constructing
a garment would be impossible without geometry. Therefore, fashion
would not be what it is today without geometry.
• Physics and mathematics are not usually perceived as being closely
connected with textile and clothing design or construction, either by
scientists or by artists. Those who make clothing from cloth, however,
must always take into account two geometries: the plane geometry of the
cloth and the solid geometry of the body. In order to clothe the body we
begin with cloth. Woven, knitted, knotted, or otherwise constructed, the
inherent structure of cloth reflects mathematical principles. Interlaced
threads create square or triangular grids, techniques such as knitting or
crocheting can make grids of any shape, from triangular to polyhedral.
Those who make clothing transform flat fabric planes into three-
dimensional forms through a variety of means. A single plane figure—such
as a square, rectangle, or circle—can be used to create a garment without
cutting or tailoring.

GEOMETRIC
DESIGNS:
• These include all types of shapes, lines,
circles etc. The designs created from
lines give an interesting look of stripes
and checks are more used for shirting
purposes. Polka dot prints are one of
the most common prints which fall in
this category.
• Another common print is the abstract
print created with combination of
different shapes mainly finds it s use in
casual wears. Plaids are great
geometric designs and are created in
monotones or neutral colour to give it
a subtle look.
Patterns
• The squares and rectangles created are
geometric shapes Plaid uses parallel and
perpendicular lines to create rectangles and
squares PINSTRIPES A pinstripe pattern uses
threaded parallel lines, which have the same
slope TESSELLATIONS A tessellation is a
repeated pattern without gaps or overlaps
-Tessellations are used to create a repeating
pattern on clothing REFLECTION
When the pattern is reflected over the line
of symmetry GEOMETRIC SHAPES Many
designers use basic shapes to create
patterns
Geometrical implements

• Angles play a role in determining necklines and hems, for instance,

and sophisticated geometrical patterns are very often seen on
garments.
• Fashion designers routinely make use of geometrical implements such
as T-squares and rulers, with straight lines being a common sight in
contemporary fashion. These include crisp, straight-edged collars and
A-line dresses that flare out from the body.
• Particularly in prints, checkers, bold zigzags and grids are common.
Some designers aim for a disguising of the natural figure with such
geometry, often by combining straight-edged garments with grid-like
patterning.
Conclusion
It is clear that geometry plays an important role in
fashion. Geometry provides fashion designers with a unique,
creative way to express themselves through design. Additionally,
constructing a garment would be impossible without geometry.
Therefore, fashion would not be what it is today
without geometry.
