PROBLEM BACKGROUND
• As in other countries, in Sri Lanka, there is a high possibility to develop green
technology in building the construction industry. other countries have done
many kinds of research about the life cycle cost of green technology houses.
• Sri Lanka, they have not done enough researches on LCCA of green
technology houses in Sri Lanka. This is an obstruction to the speed
development of green building technology.
• This is an important stage of the LCCA pre-plan. Without any training or
knowledge contractors in relevant areas have involved in the green
technology constructions, therefore, provincial councils had to face huge
problems.
• This research is an encouragement to Sri Lanka's construction industry to do
more researches on LCCA of traditional houses and green technology houses.
INTRODUCTION
• In the developed countries of the world, green techniques are used
for the construction industry. Today, Sri Lanka is also seeing a boom in
green techniques.
• This is because using green technologies can make a building more
environmentally friendly and energy-efficient. The research involves
analyzing the life cycle cost of a conventional house and a house built
using green technologies.
• This will determine which type of house is more profitable and
sustainable.
OBJECTIVES

• To investigate the appropriate green technology concepts which are


most suitable for the purpose
• To design a house with a green concept considering the green rating
system
• To compare Life Cycle Cost Analysis of the green concept house with a
typical house

The reference to the housing selected for the project was the Census and Statistics
Report 2012. The details of the houses obtained from the report are given in the
table below

five living quarters for an average household.

• Electricity is used as a power source
• Non-VOC Nipolac paint have been used for wall painting

• Intensive green roof is light weight roof. Therefore,
intensive roof use this project.
• It’s cost 15$ per square foot and annual maintenance
cost is 0.75-1.50$ per square meter.

E-windows typically cost about 10-15% more than normal windows, but
they reduce energy loss by as much as 30-50%.

CALCULATIONS OF LCCA
There are many formulas to calculating Life Cycle Cost;
Basic Formula
The formula for calculating life-cycle cost is:
LCC = I + Repl - Res + E + W + OM&R + O
• LCC: Total life-cycle cost in present value (PV)
• I: Initial cost
• Repl: Present value capital replacement costs
• Res: Present value residual value less disposal costs
• L: Desired useful life in years of the building or system
• E: Total energy cost (PV)
• W: Total water costs (PV)
• OM&R: Total operating, maintenance, and repair costs (PV)
• O: Total other costs, if any—contract administration costs, financing costs, employee
salaries and benefits, and so forth (PV)
CALCULATIONS OF LCC
Another formula;C
LCC = I + Repl - Res + L (OM&R)
• I = Initial cost (the easy part)
• Repl = Replacement cost for any system
• Res = Any remaining value you can recover at the end of the time period
• L = The time period you have chosen for the analysis.
• OM&R = The yearly average operating, maintenance, and repair costs
(including fuel and utility costs).
• Life cycle costs can’t calculate for longer than 25 years.
