Shovel

• Used for mixing and tampering moulding


sand.

Rammer

• Made of hard wood .


• Has flat end for pressing the sand.
• Another end has peen for pressing sand into sides.

Trowel

• Used for smoothening and patching surface of


the mould.
• Used for cleaning the surface.
• The blade is made of mild steel and fitted in
wooden handle.

Slick

• Has flat surface on one end and spoon on the


other end.
• Used for patching and smoothening the mould.

Lifter

• Has a small rectangular flat surface on one end.


• Made of mild steel.
• Used for repairing the mould and for removing
sand particles.

Bellows

• Used to blow excess parting sand in


mould.
• Made of leather bags fitted in wooden frame.

Strike off Bar

• Made of wood or metal with straight edge.


• Used for cutting extra sand.
• Leveling the top surface.

Vent Rods
• A steel wire or rod with sharp pointed edge.
• Used for making small holes in the sand of
mould.
• Molten metal escapes from these holes.

Sprue Pin

• A tapered wooden peg.


• Used for cutting risers through which gases
escape.

Gate Cutter

• Made of sheet metal bent into U-Shape.


• Used for cutting gate in the mould.

• A soft brush.
• Used for moistening the sand around the pattern.

• A fork shaped rod.
