Biogas From
Kitchen Wastes
Social
Entrepreneurship
Presented by Hina Liaqat
• Biogas is the mixtures of different gases but mainly
methane(65%) and carbon dioxide (30 %). it can be
obtained by fermentation or bio degradation of organic
waste (kitchen waste , animal dung, etc) with in a
container in the absence of oxygen this process also
knows as anaerobic digestion (AD).
• It is a cheap source of energy because the feed stocks for
its production are usually waste materials
Kitchen waste
Kitchen waste is defined as left-over organic matter from restaurants, hotels and
households. Tons of kitchen wastes are produced daily in highly populated
areas. Kitchen waste includes;
• vegetable and fruit waste of different types (fruit, vegetable, vegetable and
fruit remains and peelings),
• eggshells and coffee sediments,
• tea and coffee filter bags,
• tainted food,
• non-liquid cooked food waste, bones
Objectives
• The use of biogas using kitchen waste as feedstock can
help solve the problem of energy deficit and at the same
time, allow the safe disposal of kitchen waste which is
often unscientifically dumped or discarded.
• The biogas produced can be used to supplement the fuel
requirements of the campus kitchens that generate the
kitchen waste.
