I have done a lot of embarrassing things in my life, but
the time four years ago when I tried to sing solo in a
musical production tops them all. I had gotten a part as a
member of the chorus in Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory.
One day at rehearsal, we were handed copies of “Who
Can Make a Rainbow” and were told to memorize it by
next day, which was the first dress rehearsal. When I got
home, I memorized this song word for word. I made
everyone in my family hear me sing it at least five times.
Capital punishment results in death by execution. It is
legal in many states as a punishment for serious crimes,
but does not make it right. Capital punishment should be
stopped because it is morally wrong, expensive, and such
a slow process.
Capital punishment should be dropped from our legal
system. People should see that it is morally wrong. If not,
then common sense should tell them that it doesn’t work
well since it is so expensive and such a slow process.
One of our class plays about Cortes and the Aztecs came to a
surprising ending. During the big moment in the play, Cortes and two of
his soldiers were waiting for Montezuma II. Then the Aztecs leader
entered on a royal chair carried by two Aztec warriors. Montezuma II
greeted Cortes and gave him a cloth bag containing jewels and gold.
The two leaders exchanged a few words, and then Cortes suddenly
drew his sword as if he were going to kill Montezuma II or one of his
warriors. But the sword broke in half as soon as he swung it above his
head. Montezuma II looked at the broken weapon and said, “This time
you lose, Cortes”. The play stopped at that point because everyone kept
laughing.
An Aztec warrior could dress like a jaguar knight once he
proved himself in battle. On his head, a knight wore a covering
that looked like a jaguar’s head with its jaws opened very wide.
The knight’s face fit into this opening. Sometimes a knight would
also wear a headdress of big feathers. To protect his body, a
knight wore padded tan clothing painted with black spots to look
like a jaguar. On his feet, a jaguar knight wore light sandals, or
nothing at all. In one hand, he held a round shield painted with
bright Aztec designs, and in the other hand, he held a club or
spear. When an Aztec warrior dressed like this, he looked wild
and dangerous.
Making Aztec hot cocoa is almost as easy as making
regular hot cocoa. First pour one cup of milk and two
teaspoons of cocoa powder into a pan. Stir this mixture
and start warming it on the stove at medium heat. Then
add a little cinnamon, or stir the cocoa with a cinnamon
stick. Next, to make your Aztec cocoa truly authentic, stir in
a small slice of orange peel. Finally, heat the drink until it is
steaming. When you first taste this spicy cocoa, you will
understand why it was so popular with the Aztec people.
