QUIETING
PREVENTING CAVITATION
When a machine is in contact with a fluid, it may
be susceptible to cavitation. The sounds of gas
bubbles imploding is the source of the noise.
Ships and submarines which
have screws that cavitate are more vulnerable to
detection by sonar.
CAVITATION – is a symptom of insufficient
net positive suction head. It decreases an
application’s efficiency over time and puts
repeated stress on critical pump parts, shortening
their overall lifespan.
COMMON EXAMPLES
The most common examples of this kind of wear
are to pump impellers, and bends where a
sudden change in the direction of liquid occurs.

2 CLASSES OF BEHAVIOR
Inertial (or transient) cavitation
Non-inertial cavitation
INERTIAL CAVITATION
Inertial cavitation is the process where a void or
bubble in a liquid rapidly collapses, producing
a shock wave.
NON-INERTIAL
Non-inertial cavitation is the process in which a
bubble in a fluid is forced to oscillate in size or
shape due to some form of energy input, such as
an acoustic field.
