QUESTIONS
 THREE BASIC STEPS IN STUDYING THE BIBLE
OBSERVATION
FIND THE FACTS
 This means to see data not as
isolated facts but as facts related to
one another.
 These may include people, places,
occasions, actions and reactions,
motives, statements and
comments.
 To observe accurately, look at the
text closely, note the passages
immediately before and after in
order to put it in context.
INTERPRETATION
SEARCH FOR SIGNIFICANCE OR
MEANING
 What the passage meant to the
original hearers, and what it may
mean for us readers today. (What
culturally dated and what is permanently valid).
 We need to define words, phrases,
and expressions according to the way
they were used in the passage.
 What lesson can we derive from the
intended message?
 Interpretation helps us to understand
the meaning of the passage.
APPLICATION
LINK TO LIFE
 To apply means to act on what the
passage has taught us personally
or corporately.
 Prior to action must be a reflection
on how the passage addresses
our present situation.
 How should we respond to God’s
message?
 How should His words change our
thoughts, words and actions?
 Application allows us to make
truth active in our lives.

APPLICATION
 QUESTIONS OF APPLICATION
In what situation in my life are the principles
taught here applicable?
What can I do to show that I obey the commands
or follow the good examples given?
What attitudes or actions should I changes? How
How should I response to the triune God?
 WHAT ARE THE QUALITIES OF A GOOD
QUESTION?
Clear, Short, Well-Worded.
Focus on the Bible Passage.
Not too simple nor too complex.
Not merely answerable “yes” or “no” but
requires reasoning and explanation.
