Discuss measures to prevent covid 19 infection

What is Covid-19 ?
Coronavirus disease 2019 ( COVID-19 ) is an infectious disease
caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2
(SARS-CoV-2). It was first identified in December 2019 in
Wuhan , China, and has since spread globally, resulting in an
ongoing pandemic .

As of 17 May 2020, more than 4.65 million cases have been

reported across 188 countries and territories, resulting in more
than 312,000 deaths . More than 1.7 million people have
recovered.
Sign and symptoms Covid-19
World Health Organization
(WHO)
As is common with infections, there is a delay between the moment a
person is first infected and the time he or she develops symptoms. This is
called the incubation period . The average incubation period for
COVID‑19 is five to six days but commonly ranges from two to 14 days,
and although uncommon cases may have a much longer incubation period,
greater than 95% of people who develop symptoms will do so within 13
days of infection.
When the disease continues it can cause complications. The Complications may include;

Pneumonia
Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)
Multi-organ failure

Septic shock
And death Cardiovascular complications may include heart
failure , arrhythmias , heart inflammation , and blood clots .

Approximately 20-30% of people who present with

COVID‑19 have elevated liver enzymes reflecting liver injury.
Neurologic manifestations include seizure , stroke ,
encephalitis , and Guillain–Barré syndrome.

Children may develop paediatric multisystem inflammatory

syndrome , which has symptoms similar to Kawasaki
disease , and die.
Transmission of covid-19
The virus is primarily spread between people during close contact,
like
[a] most often via small droplets produced by coughing,
[b] sneezing, and talking.

The droplets usually fall to the ground or onto surfaces rather than
travelling through air over long distances .

Less commonly, people may become infected by touching a

contaminated surface and then touching their face. It is most
contagious during the first three days after the onset of symptoms,
although spread is possible before symptoms appear, and from
people who do not show symptoms.
Does climate affect the spread of covid 19?

Some say that this virus will not last long in

tropical climates, whereas in Indonesia with hot
temperature reaching 32 degrees Celsius and in
May 17 2020 17,514 people were infected covid-
19.
But in the research of Peter Jüni MD et all explained Epidemic
growth of COVID-19 was not associated with geographic latitude,
nor with temperature during the exposure period, in our global
analysis. Only area-wide public health interventions were
consistently associated with reduced epidemic growth, and the
greater the number of co-occurring public health interventions, the
larger the reduction in growth. Taken together, these findings sug-
gest that seasonality is likely to play only a minor role in the epi
demiology of COVID-19, while public health interventions (school
closures, restricting mass gatherings, social distancing) appear to
have a major impact. The important effect of public health interven-
tions needs to be weighed carefully against potential economic and
psychosocial harms when deciding when and how to lift restrictions.
So, WHO Recommended measures to prevent
infection include
1. frequent hand washing ,
2. maintaining physical distance from others
(especially from those with symptoms),
3. quarantine (especially for those with symptoms),
4. covering coughs,
5. and keeping unwashed hands away from the face.
6. In addition, the use of a face covering is
recommended for those who suspect they have the
virus and their caregivers.
