Chemical Classification of Matter and Mixtures

The document discusses the classification of matter and mixtures. It defines a substance as matter that cannot be separated into other kinds of matter by physical processes. A pure substance is made up of the same kind of particles. A mixture is formed when two or more substances are mixed without undergoing chemical changes while retaining their properties. Mixtures are classified as either homogeneous, where the components are uniformly mixed and cannot be easily distinguished, or heterogeneous, where the components are not uniformly mixed and can be visibly distinguished. Examples of each type of mixture are provided.

CHEMICAL CLASSIFICATION OF MIXTURE
SUBSTANCE AND PURE SUBSTANCE

Substance : A substance is a kind of matter that

cannot be separated into other kind of matter by any
physical process. A pure substance is made up of
same kind of particles.
MIXTURES

A Product formed by mixing two or more substances in

any proportion such that individual substances do not
undergo chemical change but retain their properties.
Example: salt and water, air
Classification of mixture

Types of Mixture : Mixture is of two types :

(i) Homogenous mixture (ii) Heterogenous mixture
i)Homogenous mixtures: components of mixtures are
uniformly [Link] cannot be easily
distinguished
Example:sugar mixed with water.
ii)Heterogenous Mixture: Components of mixtures are
not uniformly mixed and sometimes individual
components are [Link] are easily
distinguished
Example:mixture of sand and salt.
