Hollerith Desk
An American statistician Herman Hollerith
developed a tabulating machine in late 1880s
known as Hollerith desk.
It was used in American census.
It had a card reader that could count and
display the result.

Mark I was designed in 1944 by a Harvard
graduate student, Howard H. Aiken to solve
advanced mathematical physics problems
encountered in his research.

ENIAC
ENIAC stands for Electrical Numerical Integrator and
Calculator.
It was the first general purpose computer.
It was designed by john William Mauchly and John
Eckert in 1946.
It was very heavy and large in size.
It consumed a large amount of power.
It could perform about 50000 additions per second.
EDVAC also invented by these two persons was an
advance form of ENIAC. 7

UNIVAC stands for UNIVersal Automatic Computer.
Invented in 1951
First computer that was commercially produced for
general use.
It was initially built for the U.S. Census Bureau.
UNIVAC was the first computer to handle both
numerical and textual information.

It could read data from punched cards and
magnetic tapes.
It could perform calculations in milliseconds.
A machine developed for "ordinary business” went
on to become the most popular computer of the
1950s.
