How it mud works

• Mud baths have been known and used for thousands of years,
but their mechanism is not fully understood.
• Mud therapy has been successfully used in the treatment of
neurological, rheumatologic (osteoarthritis) and
cardiovascular disorders, gynecological conditions
(inflammatory and menstrual cycle disorders) and skin
pathology (eczema, acne, psoriasis, dermatitis). We present
recent data on the mechanism of mud baths and their clinical
application.

Skin permeability
• Human skin has a low permeability that do not allow foreign substances to
penetrate and diffuse through the skin.
• But nanoparticles 40 nm in diameter and smaller have been successful in
penetrating the skin .
• They are iron, calcium, oxygen, sodium, potassium, magnesium, hydrogen,
chlorine, iodine, manganese, lead, carbon, zinc, sulfur, and nitrogen.
• Draw out impurities from the skin, Exfoliate dead skin cells, Relax sore
muscles and joints, Improve skin conditions, like eczema and psoriasis and
Relieve pain from rheumatoid arthritis

Mud and Skin permeability

• New studies point towards the so-called

"chemical effects" of peat containing
substances. These effects include a stimulatory
response of the spontaneous contractile activity
(SCA) of smooth muscle (SM) tissue.
• Our body absorbs more minerals through your
skin during a five minute shower than it does
by drinking 64 oz (about 1.9 liter) of water over
the span of a week.
