The IEP Process

Who are the Stakeholders and What is their Role


When Parents request referral to the
School-Based Team (SBT) or an IEP

 Follow the same procedure as if a


teacher refers a student to SBT
 Response To Intervention (RTI)
 SBT gathers information from
multiple places (current grades,
counsellor reports, evaluations)
 Struggling students are given a
support block
 Learning support teacher creates
an IEP
Learning Support Teachers
 Create the IEP
 Involve parents in the creation of an IEP
 Questionnaire sent to parents and asked if they would like to be contacted or have a
meeting
 Utilize a coordinated, collaborative process to create the best possible outcome for
the student
 Identify responsibilities of individual members in the student’s support team and
assist meetings to create IEP
 Identify learner’s strengths and needs and consider best possible area for program
focus
 Determine adaptations, modifications, and instructional learning resources
 Develop school-base, community-based and worksite learning goals
 Ensure assessment and learner profiles are up-to-date
 Report to parents: informal and ongoing AND formal and written
General Classroom Teachers
 Instruct, supervise and facilitate student learning
 Plan learning activities: how Teachers Assistants (TA) can help, classroom
management, expected setting for student
 Evaluate progress as outlined by the goals in the IEP
 Share relevant information about the student with the appropriate parties
Students
 Share their strengths and weaknesses
 Talk about good and bad past strategies
 Create personal goals with help from the Learning Support Teacher
