Indeed, the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta
has really come of age. We are here this
afternoon to enrich our knowledge from the
30th Inaugural Lecture of the University, and I
have the honour and privilege to welcome you
to this great citadel of knowledge. This is the
maiden edition from the metamorphosed
College of Agricultural Management and Rural
Development (COLAMRUD) and the very first
from the Department of Agricultural Extension
and Rural Development, and the ninth that I
would preside over as Vice-Chancellor. 5

Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) in
1979.

1981/82 Academic Session,
where he completed the first
year, out of the two-year
Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural
Education Programme

University, Petersburg, Virginia,
USA, on Federal Government
Scholarship, where he obtained the
Bachelor of Science and Master of
Science degrees in Agricultural
Education in 1983 and 1984
respectively.

Professor Omotayo worked
briefly as a teacher at Unity
Secondary School, Ado-Ekiti
between 1985 and 1987 and was
later an Education Officer in the
Inspectorate Division of the Ondo
State Ministry of Education,
between 1987 and 1988.

He moved to the Ahmadu Bello University,
Zaria during the 1988/89 Academic Session
and enrolled as a full-time Ph.D. student in
the Department of Agricultural Economics
and Rural Sociology. Thereafter, he joined
the services of the National Agricultural
Extension and Research Liaison Services
(NAERLS), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria,
in July, 1990 while he continued with his
Ph.D. programme, which he completed in
November, 1995.

Information System (GIS)
and Remote Sensing at the
Natural Resources Institute
(NRI), United Kingdom in
April, 2001.

 Professor Omotayo started his academic
career in July, 1990 as Assistant Extension
Specialist at NAERLS, Ahmadu Bello
University, Zaria.

 He joined the services of the University of


Agriculture, Abeokuta in August 1997 as a
Senior Lecturer.

He served two terms as Head of
the Department of Agricultural
Extension and Rural
Development between 1997 and
2000. He rose through the ranks
and became a Professor in
October, 2003.

He has served the University in
several capacities.
• He was appointed Director of the
Agricultural Media Resources and
Extension Centre (AMREC) in
August, 2006, a position he held until
he moved to Ekiti State as the
Commissioner for Agriculture in
February, 2008.

and was appointed Director, UNAAB
CONSULT Limited, a position he still
holds.

Population Studies.

Changes in Developing Countries, among
others.
