By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:
2.4.1 Explain the main points of an idea or argument by explaining at least 2 main reasons why
playing on the play station/video games and doing exercise in the fresh air are both popular activities
LEARNING OBJECTIVES and why he/she thinks they spend/don’t spend too much time on the computer.
2.1.2 Ask about and explain advantages and disadvantages of ideas, plans,
arrangements by stating at least 2 advantages and disadvantages of play station/video
games/study using computers/study using books.
What I’m looking for (WILF)
1. Pupils can explain at least 2 main reasons why playing on the play station/video games and doing
exercise in the fresh air are both popular activities and why he/she thinks they spend/don’t spend too
SUCCESS CRITERIA much time on the computer.
2. Pupils can state at least 2 advantages and disadvantages of play station/video games/study using
computers/study using books.

ACTIVITIES
1. Pupils turn to their textbook page 143 and discuss 3 questions in Activity 1 in pairs.
PRE-LESSON
2. A few pairs share their discussion with the class.
LESSON DEVELOPMENT 3. Pupils read the instruction and 4 pairs of items in Activity 2.
4. Pupils work in pairs to explain to each other which pair they have chosen and describe how they think
they are similar and different and finally, which item they would prefer to own if they could only own
one of them with 1 reason given.
5. Pupils read the expressions in the Language Box before the discussion.
6. A few pairs share their discussion with the rest of the class.
7. Pupils remain with their partners and take turns to be Pupil A and Pupil B and ask each other
questions for 1 set of photographs (Picture A and Picture B).
8. Pupil A also explain at least 2 main reasons why playing on the play station/video games and doing
exercise in the fresh air are both popular activities while Pupil B state at least 2 advantages and
disadvantages of both. (Main Skill and Complemetary Skill)
9. Pupils swap roles and ask each other questions for another set of photographs (Picture C and Picture
D).
10. Pupils B explains why he/she thinks they spend/don’t spend too much time on the computer and
Pupil A discuss at least 2 advantages and disadvantages of studying using books and studying on the
computer. (Main Skill and Complementary Skill)
11. A few pairs demonstrate their role play in front of the class.

Differentiated Activities:
Less proficient pupils: Provide cards with the appropriate language from the Language Bank or relevant
phrases such as ‘Yes, that’s an excellent idea but what if…’ or ‘I agree with you that….is a good idea and
also…’
More proficient pupils: -
12. Pupils review their learning in this lesson by working in pairs to discuss 4 questions in Activity 4.
