Part I: Project Concept Definition

Columbia State Community College is a community


college serving southern middle Tennessee. The
mascot for Columbia State is the Charger. However,

Columbia State’s main campus is located in the Mule


Capital of the World, Columbia, Tennessee, who
each year during the first week of April, hosts Mule
Day celebrations. People come from all over to
attend the celebration, join in the parade, and shop
the crafts fair

This year Columbia State would like to honor Mule


Day by adopting a mule as its mascot for the week
and showcasing its IT program.

The mule mascot will be worn by players during all

games the week of Mule Day and will be on banners


hung on all five of Columbia State’s campuses and in
downtown Columbia. Tee-shirts will be available for
sale in the bookstore on the main campus, at the
craft fair, and even in the local Wal-Mart, with all
proceeds going to scholarships for incoming IT
students.
Where? Part I: Project Concept Definition

The main artwork will be housed in the Pryor


Administration building for viewing by visitors to the
campus. However, during the week of Mule Day, the
work will be located at the epicenter of Mule Day,
Maury County Park. The work will also be a part of
the famed Mule Day parade.

Columbia State administration feels that this work


Why?

will create solidarity between the college and the


community it has called home for over 50 years.
They believe that by displaying the temporary
mascot along with the code, it could also be used as
a recruiting tool for the IT program.

I will create a new (temporary) mascot for Columbia


How?

mascot and mules as the inspiration for the new
mascot.
