Definitions

Appraisal Well

It is a vertical or deviated well that is drilled so as to understand the potential of a hydrocarbon

reservoir before commercial production of oil from a well can commence.
Development Well.

A well drilled in a proven producing area for the production of oil or gas.
Exploratory well.

A well initially drilled to find oil or gas in an unproven area.
Delimiting Well.

A well drilled within the boundaries of a reservoir with the objective of: 1). Delimit the reservoir horizontally and vertically;
2) Confirm the distribution of the storage rock in sedimentary bodies for changes of faces within the same structure; 3)
Acquire information to update the geological modeling, reducing the uncertainty, reclassify and update the reserves,
assess the possible revenues and program the strategy for the development.

DST -What is it?
 DST - What is it?

A system of surveys performed on wells, consisting

of the following:
 Running downhole tools to measure certain
parameters
 Processing of measured parameters.

 Estimation of reservoir properties, geometry, etc.

 Analysis and interpretation of inferred reservoir

properties.
 It can be performed on drill pipe and with wire line .

 Well testing - What is the purpose?

 To determine the flow capacity of a well in

reservoir specific conditions and pressures.
 In terms of exploration to get as much information
as possible about the formation structure and its
properties to estimate or appraise the block or
field.
 In terms of production to get information related
to flow characteristics, monitor and control, and
to evaluate the efficiency of procedures.
 DST is common on just-drilled appraisal wells
and exploration wells in order to determine: the
formation fluid type, Well productivity, Reservoir
pressure and temperature and reservoir
