MATHEMATICS
CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
Pomelo peel is considered as an agricultural
waste. Two million pomelos are produced annually
together with the generation of large amount of
pomelo peels as its byproduct, largely dumped in
the landfills of China.
According to Food and Agriculture
Organization of the United Nations (FAO-STAT), it
shows that statistical data around 2010 reveals
that the world production of citrus fruits was over
100 million tons.
SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS
The study aims to lessen the pollution
and the amount of pomelo peels disposed
in the industry which helps the agricultural
management to easily control and restrict
the disposal of the peels. In addition, field
workers will greatly benefit for the peels are
an agricultural by-product, which consists of
mostly organic and helpful components in
growing crops and plants.
STATEMENT OF THE
PROBLEM
The main purpose of the study is to formulate
the potential of pomelo (citrus maxima) peels in
fertilizing the soil and increasing the growth
process of the plants.
In the study reported, it seeks to answer the
following:
a) What is the content of the pomelo peels?

b) What is the effect of pomelo peels to the:

Length of stem of tomato plant
Number of leaves of tomato plant
c) Determine the significant difference of
pomelo (citrus maxima) peels as fertilizer
and commercial fertilizer to the tomato
plants in terms of:
Length of stem
Number of leaves

TIME AND PLACE OF THE STUDY

This study will be conducted at
Barangay San Benito Norte, Aringay, La
Union from November 2018 to February
2019.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
 CITRUS MAXIMA. A round, large fruit known as pomelo
(shaddock, pummel, Chinese grapefruit etc.) which mostly
found in countries with warm climates and US-based rich in
flavanoid.
 COMMERCIAL FERTILIZER. A substance that contains one or
more recognized plant nutrients and enhanced the fertility of the
soil and the growth of plants.
 FERTILIZER. It is any material, natural or synthetic that is
applied to soils or to plant tissues to supply one or more plant
nutrients essential to the growth of plants.
 FLAVANOID. It is a group of plant metabolites that reduces risk
of cancer, heart disease, asthma, and stroke.
 MULCHING. It is a simple process of using garden leftovers
such as leaves, grass clippings and shredded trees to cover
any bare soil in the garden.
CHAPTER 2: METHODOLOGY
RESEARCH DESIGN
The research used experimental
research design. An experimental research
design utilizes scientific method to test
cause-and-effect relationship under
controlled by the researchers.
The study used two treatments, which are as
follows:
 T1 - fresh pomelo peels

 T2 - commercial fertilizer
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Materials
 Plant material - Pomelo (C. maxima) peels
collected from San Benito Norte, Aringay, La
Union
 Test plant - tomato planted and collected
from San Benito Norte, Aringay, La Union
 Laboratory apparatus - ruler or meter stick

 Chemicals commercial fertilizer

MATERIALS AND METHODS
Clean pomelo (C. maxima) peels were
gathered from the plant. The plant was
freshly picked and immediately peeled to
get the essential peels.
A total of 300-gram pomelo (C. maxima)
peeling was chopped and diced into pieces.
A set of two 2x3 ft. yard was used in
planting the tomato seeds. The soil was
measured using ruler and meter stick. A
total of twelve (12) tomato plants were used
in the study.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
There are two treatments namely, T1 -
fresh pomelo peels and T2- commercial
fertilizer. The test materials were given
equal amount of pomelo peels.
These treatments were administered
every seven (7) days for each treatment.
The length of stem and number of leaves of
tomato plants in each treatment were
observed and measured during the
observation and gathering of data.
DATA ANALYSIS
 The data gathered were arranged and
computed using the statistical tool, the
Analysis of variance (ANOVA). It will be
used to determine the existence of
significant difference in the length of stem
and number of leaves of tomato plants
among the two treatments.
