  growth is projected to grow by two billion people in the next 50 years. If each person
uses 1 50 Watt light bulb, how much new power will we need?

How many nuclear power plants is that? A lot. More on this later.

Common Units & Conversion Factors for Energy
Analysis
ENERGY, WORK & POWER
It  takes energy to do work, and they are closely related.
Work and Energy are expressed in the derived quantity Joules J or kilojoules kJ. The following
are equivalent unit expressions for 1 J:
1 J= 1 kg =1 N m=1 Pa =1 W s=1 C V
Where:
Pa = pressure in pascals, W = Watts, C = coulombs, V = volts
POWER
Power is, “The rate at which work is done or energy is transferred. It is given as energy per unit
time with units Watts,
where
1 W = 1 J/s and 1 kW = 1 kJ/s
PRESSURE UNITS
1 Pa = 1 N/m2 1 bar ≡ 105 Pa 1 atm ≡ 101,325 Pa ≡ 1.01325 x 105 Pa ≡ 101.325 kPa = 1.01325
bars = 1013.25 millibar (mbar, mb) ≈ 14.696 psi ≈ 760 mm Hg (or Torr) ≈ 29.92 in Hg ≈

1 kgf/cm2 = 9.807 N/cm2 = 9.807 x 104 N/m2 = 9.807 x 104 Pa = 0.9807 bar = 0.9679 atm

1 mm Hg ≈ 1 Torr = 1/760 atm
