LEADERSHIP & THE PROJECT
MANAGER EXERCISE

3
Purpose of the Exercise
• Explore your own thoughts and personal story regarding
leadership
• Identify what it means to be a good leader
• Identify the differences between a leader and a manager

4
Introduction
• We have all been members of groups, and most groups have
leaders in them. In this activity, we will use common sayings
and thoughts about leadership to discuss what it means to
lead others.
• There are many different styles, ideologies, and opinions on
leadership
• We need to work to identify those leadership methods that
work best to be “inclusive”

5
Exercise Process
• Divide into your Groups
• Each Group will be given a list of “Leadership Quotes”
• In next 30 minutes, each Group will discuss the quotes and
decide by “consensus” the one quote that resonates the most
with the Group – can be positively, negatively, or another
reason
• Once you have selected the quote, answer the following
questions:
– Why did you select this quote?
– What made this quote most interesting to the group?
– How does this quote help or “hurt” inclusion?
• Select a spokesperson to discuss your results with the class
