Outline
a) GCF
b) Difference of 2 squares
c) Perfect Square Trinomial
d) General Trinomial
Solving Q.E by Factoring

A.) GCF |Given Quadratic Term (ax2) & linear term bx

① GCF of Coefficient
1) x2 – 4x = 0 ② GCF of Variable
Equate to 0
x (x – 4) = 0
x=0 |x-4=0
x1 = 0 x2 = 4
Try this one:

A.) 2. 4x2 – 6x = 0
① GCF of Coefficient | ② GCF of Variable

2x (2x – 3) = 0 Equate to 0

2x = 0 2x – 3 = 0
2x = 0 2x = 3
2 2 2 2
x1 = 0 x2 = 3

B.) Difference of 2 squares |

Given Quadratic Term & C

3. x2 – 9 = 0
(x + 3)(x -3) = 0
x+3=0 x–3=0
x1 = -3 | x2 = 3
Try this one:
B.) 4. 4x2 – 25 = 0
(2x + 5)(2x– 5) = 0
2x + 5 = 0 2x – 5 = 0
2x = -5 2x = 5
2 2 2 2
x2 = 5
x1 = -5

C.) Perfect Square Trinomial ax2 +bx +c= 0
① Factor of Quadratic Term| ② Factor of the constant term

6
5. x2 + 5x + 6 = 0 6 . 1
3 . 2
(x + 3)(x + 2) = 0
The sum should be
x+3=0 x+2=0 equal to the
middle term.
x1 = -3 | x2 = -2
Try this one:

C.) 6. m2 + 8m + 12 = 0
① Factor of Quadratic Term| ② Factor of the constant term 12
(m + 6)(m + 2) = 0 12 . 1
6 . 2
m+6=0 m+2=0
4 . 3
m1 = -6 | m2 = -2
The sum should be equal
to the middle term.
