Molality &molarity

 Molarity and molality both are unit

Molarity & of concentration
molality  Both are measured concentration of
solution
 One litre of solution containing
one gram mole of a substance is
Molarity called 1 molar(M) solution or the
molarity of solution is 1.
 molarity=gram litre^-1
/molecular mass
 =Weight of solute in gram /
Formula molecular mass×volume of
solution in litre
 M=moles solute/liters of solution
 Unit=mole/litre
1. Molarity is dependent on temperature
because of the change in volume of
solutin with temperature.
2. Molarity is affected by change in
pressure.
Definition
one gram mole of solute,when
dissolved in 1 kilogram of
Molality solvent ,the molality of
solution is 1 molal (m) or 1 m
solution.
weight of solute in
gram/molar mass×
weight of solvant in kg
Formula   m=moles solvent / kg of
solvent
Unit=mole/kg
• Note that , molality is not change with
temperature because weight is not
affected by temperature.
• Molality is not affected by change in
pressure.
Measure of Concentration Concentration

Definition The moles of a solute per liters of a solution The moles of a solute per kilograms of a solvent

Units M m

Equation M = moles solute / liters solution m = moles solute / kg solvent

Ratio of moles to: Volume (in liters) Mass (in kilograms)

An important
distinction between
Molality vs molality and molarity is
Molarity
the difference between a
solution and a solvent.
MOLARITY
Molarity is the ratio of the moles of a solute
to the total liters of a solution. The solution
includes both the solute and the solvent.
MOLARITY vs
MOLALITY MOLALITY
Molality, on the other hand, is the ratio of the moles of a
solute to the kilograms of a solvent. Note that the mass used
in the denominator is that of only the solvent, not the solute
and the solvent.
