and rain. They are usually dome-shaped or cone-
shaped and can range in size from having very wide

commonly has a spiked or knobbed finial made of
metal or wood.
HOUSES IN THIS PERIOD

Bahay na bato or Casa Filipino is a noble version of

bahay kubo with mainly Spanish Philippines, and
some Malay and Chinese influence. Its design evolved
throughout the ages but maintained its nipa hut
architectural roots. Its most common appearance is
like that of stilt nipa hut.
The bahay na bato’s original Spanish architectural
design was repurposed to suit the Philippine climate
using original building materials, in particular
construction ideas from the bahay kubo. Bahay na
bato is a type of building originating during the
Philippines’ Spanish Colonial period. It is an updated
version of the traditional bahay kubo.

TABACO INDUSTRY

The tobacco industry has historically

employed a multitude of tactics to
shape and influence tobacco control
policy. The tobacco industry has used
its economic power, lobbying and
marketing machinery, and
manipulation of the media to discredit
scientific research and influence
governments in order to propagate
the sale and distribution of its deadly
product.
GOMBURZA!

GOMBURZA or GomBurZa, refers

to three Filipino Catholic priests
(Mariano Gómez, José Burgos, and
Jacinto Zamora) who were executed
by garrote on 17 February 1872 in
Bagumbayan, Philippines by Spanish
colonial authorities on charges of
subversion arising from the 1872
Cavite mutiny. The name is a
portmanteau of the priests' surnames.
