Piping Material Class (PMC)
Introduction

 Classification system of all piping items and components that are used specifically
for each piping system on a plants.
 It’s simply summary of all piping requirements, basis design and philosophy.
 What classification means?
 Classified by pipe material (CS, SS, Galvanized, CPVC)
 Classified by corrosion allowance (0 mm,1.6 mm, 3.2 mm)
 Classified by flange rating (150#, 300#, 600#, etc)
 Classified by service fluid (Gas, Liquid, HP flare, utility, etc)
 Classified by design standard (ASME 31.3, 31.4, 31.8 etc)
 Others
Why PMC so essential?

 Piping: MTO, Material Code, Datasheet, Pipe Stress Analysis, Isometric, etc
 Process: Line Class, Line Size
 Mechanical: Pump & Tank Datasheet, Mechanical Package
 Instrument: Hook-up drawing, Instrument Datasheet, etc
 Procurement: Purchase Order
 Construction: Reference for Modification, Line Check (isometric), etc

Piping Wall Thickness Calculation

 As per ASME B31.3 S = Stress Value for material (See Table A-1),(psi)
y = Temperature Derating Factor (Table 304.1.1)
c = Allowance for threading & grooving and
tm = t + c corrosion (inch)
E = Joint Efficiency ( Table A-1A or A-1B)
P = Pressure (psig)
t = PD0 DO = Outside Diameter (inch)
