Artificial intelligence

• Artificial intelligence (AI) is the ability of a computer program or a machine to

think and learn. It is also a field of study which tries to make computers
"smart". They work on their own without being encoded with commands.
• Defined as a technology that has the ability of computers or machines to
perform tasks that are typically human, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a
technology that is developing rapidly. As it continues to advance, now is the
perfect time for fashion brands to adopt AI.
Ai into fashion

• AI helping to promote and sell fashion goods

• Increasingly, fashion brands are using AI and machine learning to maximize
users' shopping experience, improve the efficiency of sales systems
through intelligent automation, and enhance the sales processes using
predictive analytics and guided sales processes

Alibaba's AI chip
• Alibaba Group  introduced its first AI inference chip
today, a neural processing unit called Hanguang 800
that it says makes performing machine learning
tasks dramatically faster and more energy efficient.
The chip, announced today during Alibaba Cloud’s
annual Apsara Computing Conference in Hangzhou,
is already being used to power features
on Alibaba’s e-commerce sites, including product
search and personalized recommendations. It will be
made available to Alibaba Cloud
Simpler tasks
• As an example of what the chip can do,
Alibaba said it usually takes Taobao an hour to
categorize the one billion product images that
are uploaded to the e-commerce platform
each day by merchants and prepare them for
search and personalized recommendations.
Using Hanguang 800, Taobao was able to
complete the task in only five minutes.

Robots and drones

• More than 200 robots in

automated warehouse can
process 1 million shipments each
day. Once the robots received the
orders on singles day they packed
and shipped the goods and in
some cases their efficient allowed
the same day shipment .alibaba
also used drones for deliveries
Alibaba fashion AI store

• Alibaba introduced its first "fashion AI"

concept store which makes extensive use of
artificial intelligence to simplify apparel
shopping experience for the customers
• This fashion AI store uses three key features
to streamline fashion retail for customers
1.inteeligent garment tags
2.smart mirrors
3.omnichannel
Intelligent garment
tags:

• Products in this Fashion AI store

have special tracking tags featuring
radio-frequency identification
(RFID), gyro-sensors, and low-
energy Bluetooth chips. This
technology allows each garment
lock to carry specialized
information about the item it's
attached to, such as its colour and
size. The gyro-sensor will even
allow the tag to determine
whether or not the item is being
touched, moved, or picked up.
Smart mirrors:
• The store's mirrors are located on the sales floor and in changing rooms, and have touch
screens that use information relayed by the intelligent locks on each product to automatically
display information for the items customers are interacting with. These devices can also
suggest other apparel to complement the items customers are picking up, help shoppers find
where products are located, add garments to a virtual shopping cart — which staff will then
place in a fitting room — and allow customers to request different sizes and colors from their
fitting rooms, among other features. The combination of these features can make the
shopping process extremely convenient for customers, as they can build entire looks, avoid
carrying their own items to fitting rooms, and request more clothes with attributes they like.
Omnichannel
integration:
•  Fashion AI will also bring increased omnichannel capability,
as Alibaba intends to add a new “Virtual Wardrobe” feature
to its Mobile Taobao app. This would allow customers to view
the clothes they tried on in-store along with
recommendations from other merchants on Alibaba’s
shopping sites for more items that would complement those
clothes. With this feature, consumers can continue shopping
for styles they started creating in the Fashion AI store on the
go.
• The innovation Fashion AI technology offers customers, as well as the data it offers Alibaba, may
allow the e-tailer to quickly detect consumer preferences and sell trendy products. Customers
appreciate brick-and-mortar sellers that make use of advanced technology, with 44% saying that
positive experiences with technology would lead them to more frequently visit a brand, according
to a survey from Boomtown cited by Retail Dive.
• The ability to quickly build entire looks in-store and expand those styles on the go with an app
may satisfy tech-driven customers and draw them into the Alibaba shopping ecosystem. In
addition, the highly specific data that Fashion AI’s intelligent locks provide can help the e-tailer
track fine-tuned customer preference data, possibly even including which products customers
pick up and look at the most.
• Fashion AI’s recommendation capabilities expand beyond the limits of a brick-and-mortar store.
Alibaba plans to release a new “virtual wardrobe” feature on its Mobile Taobao app, which would
allow shoppers to view clothes they’ve tried on in-store, as well as mix-and-match
recommendations across brands that include items from more merchants on Alibaba’s shopping
sites, Taobao and Tmall
• Currently under development by a New Retail-focused research team at Alibaba, the Fashion AI
initiative taps technologies ranging from machine learning to computer vision to “learn” from
consumers, designers and fashion aficionados within the e-commerce giant’s ecosystem. These
insights include images of more than 500,000 outfits put together by stylists on Taobao, as well as
expertise shared by brands, Alibaba said in a statement.
Advantages of AI

• The artificial intelligence in fashion market has been segmented on the basis of

offerings, deployment, application, end-user industry, and geography. The
artificial intelligence in the fashion market based on offerings is sub-segmented
into solution and services. The solution segment is expected to hold the prime
market share in the artificial intelligence in fashion market
design

• AI integration in the fashion world makes introducing new

trends easier than ever. The algorithms analyze designs and
pick new trends with reduced forecasting error.
• Through a series of images, AI analyzes designs and compares
the data to find out what sells in the market. Data analytics
allows designers to foresee fashion trends and launch new
designs in the market.
Supply chain management
• AI integration in inventory and SCM is facilitating the logistics and supply chain processes by
cutting down costs, improving routes, foreseeing unfavourable weather conditions and fast
deliveries.
Retail

• AI in retail provides automated solutions

to monitor store activity, oversee
customer complaints and analyses what
kind of products the customers like to buy
and which products they don’t.
• Many brick and mortar fashion stores use
AI to track footfalls or record the overall
shopping experience of their customers
to generate feedback on their services
and how they can improve in the future.
• Visual-based AI models allow store
owners to categorize the merchandise
and keep records of the inventory for
efficient store management.
• To keep expenses down, brands must know the likes and preferences
of customers by collecting and scrutinizing purchase data. Making
use of this data together with machine learning and AI enables

Tailor apparel businesses to create outfits that customers wish to purchase.

For instance, apparel brand Stitch Fix uses AI tools that analyze
customer profiles and sort through thousands of combinations of
recommendations: outfits to pick outfits that fit customers’ budget and taste.
Connect with shoppers
• Today, several retailers use smart assistants or AI chatbots to connect with shoppers and offer
recommendations. This method helps them save money on staff while creating customer loyalty.
Some of the leading apparel brands such as Tommy Hilfiger and Levi’s use chatbots to help
customers pick the right denim jacket.
Improve product
decisions
• Visual search which is another retail trend powered by AI
makes it a lot easier for customers to discover products
they are looking for. Shoppers just must take a picture and
upload an image of the item they are looking for, then AI
recognizes the image across multiple retailers and sites. To
take advantage of visual search and make products easily
discoverable, retailers must make sure that the images are
up-to-date and high-quality.
Reduce returns
• rand apparels lose a huge amount of money due to customers returning
their products. It takes about three times longer to examine returned
clothes compared to other verticals, raising operational costs. In addition,
apparel returned in poor condition is often considered unfit for sale. With
AI retailers can customize the shopping experience, helping customers
make informed decisions.
• High Costs of Creation
Disadvantages • As AI is updating every day the hardware and software need to

of AI
get updated with time to meet the latest requirements.
Machines need repairing and maintenance which need plenty
of costs. It’ s creation requires huge costs as they are very
complex machines.
Making Humans Lazy

• AI is making humans lazy with its applications automating the majority of the work. Humans tend
to get addicted to these inventions which can cause a problem to the future generations.
Unemployment: • As AI is replacing the majority of the repetitive tasks and
other works with robots, human interference is
becoming less which will cause a major problem in the
employment standards. Every organization is looking to
replace the minimum qualified individuals with AI robots
which can do similar work with more efficiency.
No Emotions

• There is no doubt that machines are much better when it comes to working efficiently but they
cannot replace the human connection that makes the team. Machines cannot develop a bond
with humans which is an essential attribute when comes to Team Management.
Lacking of Thinking
out of the box

• Machines can perform only those

tasks which they are designed or
programmed to do, anything out
of that they tend to crash or give
irrelevant outputs which could be
a major backdrop.
