02A – Describe the Employment of Land Forces

Aim & Learning Objectives
Aim. The Syndicate will complete an online web discussion focused on the
employment of land forces in the COE and enhanced with appropriate
examples, case studies, and personal experience in order to understand
definitions, terminology and application of land combat power in the COE.
Learning Objectives. The specific learning objectives are to:
• Describe the conditions, guiding principles, roles and doctrine for the
employment of land forces;
• Understand principles including Mission Command, the Manoeuvrist
Approach, the Comprehensive Approach and the Effects-Based
Approach, and;
• Understand the role of tactical operations in support of Campaign
themes and the range of tactical operations across the spectrum of
conflict.
Lead’s Intent
I intend to achieve the Learning Objectives by starting with the doctrinal
references as a basis for thoughtful discussion amongst the Syndicate,
enhanced with examples from the readings. Specifically:
• I will provide an initial online Post outlining the subject matter providing
relevant examples
• Five students will answer an assigned question (see G&T)
• All students will choose 2 Posts to reply to and critique the responses
provided by classmates. Original posters may respond to critiques of
their own post.
