THE FUTURE
WILL: Predictions, offers, promises, decisions

+ We´ll meet you at the station.


- I won´t see you tomorrow.
? Will you want a taxi?

When there is no plan or arragement


(when we make a decision at the time of
speaking) we often use will.

I´m tired. I think I´ll go to bed.

Subject + will + verb infinitive.

I think Leidy will become an accountant.


WILL

 We often use I think, I expect and I hope with will.

She hopes she will work in the theatre.

o Offers:

o I´ll carry this suitcase for you.

o Predictions:

o She is so talented that I´m sure She´ll become


famous.
BE GOING TO
Plans, intentions, predictions when there is a
present evidence.

+ I´m going to start university next year.


- He isn´t going to get a job this year.
? Where are you going to stay?

Subject + am/is/are/ + going to + verb infinitive

We only have two cars. It is going to be difficult to take


eleven people tomorrow.

I´m going to do my homework tonight.

They are not going to the party.


PRESENT CONTINUOUS
Future plans when arrangements have already
been made. We usually specify future tense such
as next week, on Monday, etc.

Subject + am/is/are (not) + verb + ing

We are flying to Greece on Saturday. (We have


already bought the tickets). (Plans that involve other people
and have a fixed time and place)

She´s staying in a hotel near the airport. (The hotel is


already booked).

I´m playing football on Saturday.


I´m going to play football on Saturday. (Plans which not
involve other people, be going to is more common)
PRESENT SIMPLE
To talk about facts in schedules, timetables
and itineraries.
 The course starts in September.

 We arrive at 6 a.m at Narita airport.

 The concert starts at 7.00 p.m and finishes


at 11.00 p.m.

 The train leaves at 9.30 a.m.
