PAINTING

Painting is the practice of applying paint, pigment, color or other


medium to a solid surface. The medium is commonly applied to the
base with a brush.

•The most common form of painting.
•Involves applying color to a board or canvas that
is fixed on an upright support called Easel.
• Easel paintings were known to the Ancient Egyptians,
and the 1st century AD Roman scholar Pliny the Elder
refers to a large panel placed on an easel

•Described as a huge wall-sized painting.
•In 1980's, artists used murals to impart social
awareness on some issues at that time.
• Murals are created by younger artists through outreach
programs carried out by organizations.

Calesa Painting
• The Calesa is a horse drawn carriage popular in
1800's Philippines. The calesa features a body of
intricate woodwork and two giant wheels. In time,
paintings of landscapes, flowers and rural scenes
replaced the intricate carvings.
•Today, calesas are found in historic tourist spots
for tourists to enjoy.
