Other Properties of

Matter
Presented by:
Mr. Niño J. Olayres
Other Properties of Matter

• This property is recognized through the senses.

• Shapes
• Color
• Size
• Texture
• Hardness
• Taste
• Odor
• Temperature
Other Properties of Matter

Other properties
• brittleness,
• elasticity,
• Malleability
• compressibility,
• Ductility
• fluidity.
Basic Physical Properties of
Matter
• Mass and Weight
• Volume
Mass and Weight

• Mass is the amount of matter in

an object.
Mass and Weight

• Mass is the amount of matter in

an object.
Mass and Weight

• Weight tells how light or heavy an

object is.
• It is a measure of gravitational
force of Earth to an object.

Mass and Weight
• Weight changes with location,
while mass does not.
• The farther you are from the
surface of the Earth, the less
you weigh.

an object to attract another

Activity 1
II.Materials:
Paper and pen
Objects found at home
Activity 1
III. Procedures
1. List down the objects found at
home.
2. Describe the mass of each
objects and record your
observation in the table.
Activity 1

Heavy Light
Activity 1
1.Which objects belong to first
column? How do you determine
whether the objects belong to first
column or not?

2.Which objects belong to second

column? How do you determine the
objects that belong to second
column?
Volume
• Volume is the amount of space taken
up by matter.

Graduated cylinder used

to measure the volume
taken up by the matter.
Volume
• For the objects that have well- defined shapes,
you can measure and calculate the volume using a
formula.

V= l x w x h =100cm3
Volume
Any object occupies space.
Large objects occupy large spaces.
Small objects occupy small spaces

compared to pot with
plant.
Activity 2
Materials:
Different objects in the house,

pitcher of water plastic bag clear glass

small ball of different sizes Weighing scale

or any small objects,
Activity 2
I. Procedure:
1.Observe the different objects inside your
house.
2.Mark the spaces the objects occupy
3.Blow air into plastic bag. Observe what
happens.
Activity 2
I. Procedure:

4. Pour water into the clear glass. Let it spill.

Observe what happens.

5. Then, put small balls of different sizes into

the glass of water one at a time. Observe
what happens.
Activity 2
I. Procedure:

6. Weigh the different objects in the weighing

scale. Then, weigh the glass and the glass of
water.
Activity 2
Questions:
1. Did each object occupy space?
2. Can two or more objects occupy the same
space at the same time?
3. Which objects has more mass after you
weigh them in the weighing scale?
4. In this activity, what are the properties of
matter that you observed?
