What is an Interactive Whiteboard?

● An Interactive Whiteboard is a large touch screen the size of a whiteboard or

smaller.
● It houses an interactive, LED display.
● A user can interact with the digital content that it projects in ways that a
usual computer projector canvas setup can not.
● Can be a standalone touchscreen computer used to perform tasks and
operations, or a connectable apparatus used as a touchpad to control
computers from a projector.
How is it Used?

● Involving students in lessons

● The “interactive” aspect drives student engagement and lesson retention.
● Teachers and students can use the board by drag and dropping answers,
revealing correct answers, provide a visual reward when a student answers
correctly (Used mainly for younger students)
Pros

● Less maintenance
● Extended lamp life
● More vivid pictures then normal projectors
● Helps save money by not buying as many materials like paper
● Teachers and students can write and draw on the board
● Helps students stay engaged in a lesson
Cons
● Teachers might not have the technology skills to use all aspects the board
offers
● They might not fit in with all lesson plans
● If it breaks you can not write on it with regular white board markers or it will
not come off
● If internet at a school is slow the picture on screen might freeze or come
over to the projector
